FreeWalker. Ensuring mobility for persons with dementia

09.09.2020

One out of many projects from the AAL Call 2017 is the FreeWalker that integrates several components of AAL assistive devices and technologies in order to create a flexible and versatile solution for guiding and monitoring elderly, especially persons with dementia.

.

The FreeWalker creates individual safety zones around its user´s homes to help people suffering from dementia leave their houses and be active without having the risk of getting lost. It tracks the users by GPS and sets off an alarm in case the person leaves the save-zone. The system also includes an alarm button which can be used in case of an emergency to get in contact with their caregivers.

.

Until Spring 2021 there will be pilot operations with elderly persons using FreeWalker in their real life situations.
