Highlights of the European Week of Active and Healthy Ageing 2020

The European Week of Active and Healthy Ageing 2020 was organized as a joint initiative of the AAL Programme, the EIPA AHA and the MYBL and took place from 2. – 6. November 2020 as an online event.

800 people from all across Europe, Canada, Taiwan, Australia and other countries attended the event virtually and followed a variety of stimulating debates and exchanges with politicians, local and national administrators as well as various experts in the field of Active and Healthy Ageing.

The main focus of the event has been laid on:

– Sustainability of health and care in an ageing Europe

– Intergenerational policies

– Promotion of a socio-economic case for an ageing society

– Role of technology for the improvement of the conditions of the older people and their carers

.

In additions to that the event was looking into the most pressing and emerging consequences of the current Covid-19 crisis on the older population in Europe.

The event was welcoming various high level keynote speaker such as the Vice President of the European Commission, Dubravka Šuica, and the Independent Expert for the United Nations on the Enjoyment of all Human Rights by Older Persons, Claudia Mahler.

A special session took place on 3. November, when the AAL Smart Ageing Prize was given to Diaspo as well as the runner-ups Grandnanny and Parlangi. Read more about the finalists here.
